Baptism Guidelines

Baptism is the Sacrament of initiation and belonging. It is intended for those who seek membership in the Church - the Body of Christ either on their own behalf or, by extension, on behalf of their children. Many come to the experience of Baptism through long-established traditions in both church and family.

It is considered not only important, but also essential, to examine the expectations that accompany a request for Baptism and membership in the Church. Hence, all requests for baptism lead to discussions between the Priest and the parents and sponsors of the candidate.
Because Baptism is understood as both Initiation and Membership in the Church, the Sacrament of Baptism is held in the context of a regular service of Worship, usually at the main service on a Sunday Morning at 10:00 a.m. in the presence of the faith community. It is in this way that the larger community can show evidence of its prayerful support of the candidate and the family. Baptisms are normally not arranged for Sundays in Advent or Lent as these times are usually set aside for other special observances.

Before taking any significant step in life, it is always appropriate to prepare for it. The same holds true for membership in "The Body of Christ" - the Sacrament of Baptism. The planning and preparation can begin with a telephone call to the Church Office at (450) 672-5560 in order to make an appointment with the Parish Priest, or e-mail us.
